Annie Ruth Neal, 76, of Bastrop, La., died Nov. 13, 2013, at her home. She was born Sept. 6, 1937, in Mer Rouge, La., to the Rev. Fred Lee Neal and Iris Mae Smith. At an early age, she joined Oak Grove C.M.E. Church. She attended faithfully until she moved to Bastrop and joined St. Mary C.M.E. Temple. She was a faithful member until her death. She served on the usher board for many years. She also served as a stewardess in the church. She was a member of the Magnolia Chapter 98 Order of Eastern Star. She loved gardening and flowers. She also loved cooking and baking. She especially loved family gatherings. She attended Johnson Elementary School and graduated in 1955 from Union High School in Mer Rouge. She was preceded in death by her father and mother; and sister, Era Mae Tatum. She is survived by a daughter, Darline Neal of Hayward, Calif.; four sons, Jeffery Dale Neal of Baton Rouge, La., Rodriguez Chevalia Neal of Tomah, Wis., Tracy Marlette Neal of Bentonville, Ark., and Marvis Larenzo Neal of Tacoma, Wash.; stepmother, Willie Mae Neal of Mer Rouge, La.; five brothers, Robert Earl Jones of St. Paul, Minn., Lonnie (Della) Holmes of Tacoma, Wash., Fred (Willie Mae) Neal of Baton Rouge, La., Frankie Ray (Cynthia) Neal of Mer Rouge, La., and Ray William Neal of Memphis, Tenn.; four sisters, Diana (Joe) Bradshaw of Bastrop, La., Donna Neal of Mansfield, Texas, Lilla (Harry) Brown of Mer Rouge, La., and Thelma (Curtis) Roberson of Fort Worth, Texas; and four grandchildren, Rodriguez Logan of Texas, Shauntoya Robinson of Hayward, Calif., Janae Neal of Wisconsin and Keiara Neal of Tacoma, Wash.; one great-grandson, Ja'Braevian Thompkins of Dallas, Texas; one aunt, Gloria Jefferson of Milwaukee, Wis.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and longtime friends, Rosie Hollins and Odessa Doaty, both of Bastrop, La.; god-daughters, Roshanna Walker of West Monroe, La., and Dorothy Thomas of Bastrop, La.; and numerous other friends and her St. Mary's family. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at St. Mary C.M.E. Temple in Bastrop, La. Burial will follow in Jersaleum Cemetery in Mer Rouge, La. Pallbearers will be Fred Neal Jr., Joe Bradshaw Jr., Tyrone Tatum, Myron Tatum, Frankie Neal Jr., Bryant Brown, Derrick Bradshaw, Matthew Sepuya and Christopher Foy. Honorary pallbearers are Fred Neal, Frankie Neal, William Neal, Lonnie Holmes, Robert Jones, J.D. Reed, Emmitt Johnson, Edward Neal, Leamon Reed and Robert Jones Jr. Arrangements are being handled by Montgomery Funeral Home in Bastrop.
