Margurette Daphine Cawood Cowgur, 92, of Bentonville, Ark., passed away Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, at Circle of Life Legacy Village in Bentonville. She graduated from Bentonville High School in 1940 and was a faithful member of Hiwasse Christian Church. The daughter of the late Clay Tyler and Blanche Bishop Cawood, she was born on Sept. 3, 1921, near Centerton, Ark. Margurette married Oliver Cowgur on March 13, 1941, in Neosho, Mo. She worked alongside Oliver farming and growing chickens for most of her life. She was well-known for her garden, her homemade pies and peanut brittle that she made for all her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, John Oliver Cowgur Sr.; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Bill Allmendinger; brother and sister-in-law, Robert Lee and Jean Cawood; brother, Ralph Cawood; brother-in-law, Sam Caldwell and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Faye and Charlie Red. Margurette is survived by one daughter, Mary Ann Cowgur, of Hoschton, Ga.; one son, John Oliver Jr., and wife, Julie Rivera Cowgur, of Bentonville; seven grandchildren, John Oliver Cowgur, III, and wife, Chelsea, Justin Elliott Cowgur, and wife Miranda, Julie Allen and husband, Greg, Ashley Gettys and husband Jim, Tracee Meyer and husband Joe, Allison Luckadoo and husband Ryan, and Andrea Weatherford; 13 great-grandchildren, Margurette, Mollie, Mason and Mabry Allen; Riley, Gage, and John Houston Gettys; Ella and Oliver Meyer; John Grady and Asher Luckadoo; Baker Weatherford and Olivia Grace Cowgur; one sister, Barbara Jean Cawood Caldwell, of Springfield, Mo.; sister-in-law, Kathryn Cawood, of Bentonville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Vernita Cowgur of Bentonville, Ark., and her loving neighbors, Herman and Liz Smith and their children, Tray and Trisha Smith, who were like grandchildren to Margurette. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at Hiwasse Christian Church, Hiwasse, Ark. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at Hiwasse Christian Church with Brother Clyde Garrett officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
