Carolyn Carroll Howell, 79, of Bella Vista, formerly of Pine Bluff, passed away at home on Nov. 4, 2013. Born in West Helena on Oct. 16, 1934, Carolyn moved with her family to a farm near Elaine as a child. After graduating from Elaine High School in 1952, she enrolled at Southern State College in Magnolia. She and her husband, Tom, met there and were married April 15, 1954. Carolyn taught school at Wabash (Elaine School District) for a year while Tom was in Germany with the Army. She obtained a B.S. degree from the University of Houston in 1957 and taught first grade in Texas and Maryland before she and Tom returned to Arkansas in 1962. She taught first and second grades for several years in Pine Bluff at Gabe Meyer, Southwood and Sam Taylor elementary schools. Carolyn had a vivacious personality and many friends. She loved her family unconditionally. Carolyn's greatest passion was for her Lord whom she whole-heartedly served in churches wherever she lived, usually as a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of Bella Vista Baptist Church at the time of her death. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Tom; a son David Howell, and wife, Beverly, of Conway; a daughter, Judy Howell Adair, and husband, Randy Adair, of Joplin, Mo.; and four grandchildren, Rebecca Adair Sanders, Margaret Adair, Scott Howell and Andrea Howell. She is also survived by a sister, Rachael Rogers, of Marvell, Ark.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Willie Carroll; two brothers, Thomas Carroll and William Carroll; and one sister, Virgie Henderson. The family is grateful for her caregivers who provided her with compassionate care for over five years, and Circle of Life Hospice Care which provided for her final days. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7 at Bella Vista Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. Dave Brown. Interment will follow at Bella Vista Cemetery.
