James L. Woods

James L. Woods, 80, of Bentonville, Ark., died Thursday, May 16 at his home in Bentonville. He was born on Oct. 17, 1932, in Centerton, Ark., the son of Vivert Tom Woods and Melva Pitkin Woods. James was a farmer and outdoorsman at heart. He spent many of his days rising early in the morning to tend to his cattle and farm. In his later years, James traveled a great deal with his wife and family. He spoke most fondly of his trips to Colorado and Alaska where he was able to see the wildlife and natural landscape that he so much appreciated. James was an avid sports fan his entire life and played football for the Bentonville Tigers. He was known by his graduating class as the "Original Tiger Woods." He continued to follow the Tigers and of course followed his beloved Razorbacks. He had an impressive memory for sports facts and figures, especially when it came to his Razorbacks. One of his most exciting sports memories was that he had the privilege of seeing Jackie Robinson play in St. Louis. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Louise Woods.
