Alan Ramsey, 70, of Joplin, Mo., passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2013, in Fayetteville, Ark. He was born Oct. 28, 1942, in Little Rock, Ark., to the late Joseph Lee Ramsey and Lois Bryant Ramsey. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, George Bryant Ramsey; one sister, Sylvia Marie Ramsey; and stepson, Andrew Mason. Survivors include his sister, Kathy Ramsey Riddick of Fayetteville, Ark.; his daughter, Jessica Ramsey Masterson and her husband, Travis Masterson and their children, Declan and Connor, all of Pflugerville, Texas; one stepdaughter, Julia Mason Loecker and her two children, Jordan and Alicia of Blue Springs, Mo.; stepson, Todd Mason of Blue Springs, Mo., and his children, Erin, Andrea and Carl; a niece, Jean Ramsey Sturgell and her son, Bruce Sturgell, Jr.; one nephew, George Bryant Ramsey, II, and his wife, Robin of Sesser, Ill. Alan grew up in Lonoke, Ark., attended college at Ouachita University in Arkadelphia, Ark., and has a master's degree in psychology from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan. He was licensed as a psychologist in 1978 and practiced until 2012. He was a founding board member of a statewide group which established Missouri protocols for the diagnoses for adolescent sex offenders. He established two treatment programs and trained the staff in the treatment of adolescent sex offenders. He served as clinical director for Cottonwood Residential Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo., from 1989 to 1993. He had a private clinical practice in the Joplin, Mo., area for 20 years. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at the Chapel of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Lonoke County Literacy Council, 203 Court Street, Lonoke, Ark., 72086.
