William J. 'Bill' Thompson

William J. "Bill" Thompson, 85, of Farmington died Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Washington Regional Medical Center. He was born Aug. 1, 1927, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Harold and Dora Miles Thompson. Bill served in the Navy during WWII. He then earned degrees from Purdue, Harvard, Stanford, and his doctorate from Georgia State University. He was a dedicated professor and teacher throughout his life, and was currently teaching at the Walton College of Business. He was an enthusiastic Arkansas Razorback fan and enjoyed watching their games on TV. Bill was a member of University Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ana Luz Thompson in 2011; a brother, Jack Thompson; and a sister, Nancy Hall. He is survived by his son, Richard Thompson of Fayetteville; a brother, John Hunt and wife, Nancy, of Pensacola, Fla.; a sister, Joanne Tharp and husband, Dr. Donald Tharp, of Indianapolis, Ind.; a brother-in-law, Larry Hall of Austin, Texas; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Thompson of Colorado Springs, Colo. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 9, at University Baptist Church in Fayetteville. Interment will be at Fayetteville National Cemetery. A reception will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to University Baptist Church, 333 W. Maple St., Fayetteville, AR 72701. Arrangements are with Heritage Funeral Home in Springdale.
