Donald D. Price Sr., age 76, of Fayetteville passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013. He was born June 20, 1936, in Ada, Okla., to W.F. and Donie (Timmons) Price. During his childhood, his family moved to Phoenix, Ariz. In 1958, Don enlisted in the U.S. Army and was deployed to Korea, serving as a corpsman with the 43rd surgical hospital. He also served as a mechanic in the motor pool, feeding his love for cars. After his honorable discharge, Don returned to the West Coast where he met Marjorie Roberts. They were married Feb. 23, 1962, and with this union, Don became the father of Marjorie's son, Ken. For several years they made their home in the Phoenix/Los Angeles areas where Don was a semi-truck driver/mechanic. Their family continued to grow with the addition of three more children, Don Jr., Carol and Jeff. In 1970, Don moved his family to Flippin, Ark., where they owned and operated Margies DX. For the locals and numerous celebrities (Burt Reynolds, Dinah Shore and Tennessee Ernie Ford), it was the last place to fill-up and grab a cold one on their way to Bull Shoals Lake. But for Don, it was an opportunity to tell stories, work on vehicles and teach life-lessons to his children. After suffering a heart attack, Don was forced to sell their family business. They returned to Phoenix, where Don worked as a mechanic for the Yellow Cab Company. In 1983, they returned to Arkansas, where Don worked for Campbell Soup Company until his health forced him to retire in 1987. Although in poor health, retirement wasn't all bad, as it gave Don the free time to be an avid Razorback football and basketball fan who undoubtedly will be "armchair coaching" every game from above. Don was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. Don had the most wonderful sense of humor and was always willing to share a story with anyone willing to listen and even those that weren‘t so willing. Hot rods and fast cars may have been Don's passion, but his true love was for his family. You may be gone from our sight but we will always see the love you so freely gave. Into the Lord's arms he joins his son, Jeff Price; his parents and several brothers and sisters. Don will be forever remembered by his surviving wife of 51 years, Marjorie Price of Fayetteville; his children, Ken (Amie) Landon of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Don (Becky) Price Jr. of Fayetteville and Carol (Ted) Snow of Prairie Grove; granddaughter raised by him, Sarah Price of Farmington; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three brothers; four sisters; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2013, at Fayetteville National Cemetery with Steve Sullivan officiating. Online condolences: www.beardsfuneralchapel.com.
