Elmer A. Oskey

Elmer A. Oskey, 93, died March 19, 2013, in Springdale. He was born on April 25, 1919, in Kaukauna, Wis., to the late Albert and Elizabeth (Hoyer) Oskey. He was the loving husband of the late Goldie E. (Moore) Oskey for many years. Elmer served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII at various bases in the U.S. After the war, he owned and operated a cheese factory in Denmark, Wis. He then worked at Kohler Plumbing Co., leaving during the longest strike in U.S. history. Elmer and his family moved to Springdale, Ark., in 1956, where he owned a milk route for several years. He loved his "dream" job with Prudential Insurance Co., where he sold insurance in many areas of Arkansas. Elmer was an active member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and a volunteer at St. Mary's (Mercy) Hospital. He enjoyed playing clarinet and saxophone. Elmer was part of the marching band in the movie "The Blue and the Gray." He played several years in the "Don Sisco, Big Band," later the "Terry Band" in Bella Vista. He is survived by his son, Lee Oskey, and wife, Joan, of Pea Ridge, Ark.; brother, Al Oskey and wife, Elaine, of Wisconsin; sister, Alice Schlies of Wisconsin; grandchildren, David and Chris Oskey, Colton Noeltner, Judy Fenton, Stacey Gobble, Emily (Gobble) Tyler; and nine great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife; daughter, Debra Jean (Oskey) Gobble Noeltner; three sisters, Betty Huffman, Millie Van Rite and Dorothy DeSmith. Visitation will Thursday from 5-7 p.m. in Rollins Funeral Home Chapel/Stateroom. Funeral services will be Friday, March 22, 2013, at 2 p.m. in St. Vincent de Paul Church, with burial to follow at St. Vincent Cemetery. Monsignor LeSieur will be officiating.
