Dorothy 'Dot' Dickey

Dorothy "Dot" Dickey, 81, of Jonesboro, died March 8, 2013, at her home. She was born in Jackson, Miss., June 4, 1931, to Claud and Irene Hollingsworth Tingle. Dot attended Millsaps College in Jackson before transferring to Delta State College at Cleveland, Miss., where she met her husband, David. They married and lived in Drew, Miss., until 1955 at which time they moved to West Memphis where Mr. Dickey worked as a logging contractor. They belonged to the Methodist Church where she was involved in teaching Sunday school, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and the United Methodist Women. She was in the Garden Club and Junior Auxiliary. She and her husband helped establish the Boy's Club when it first started. In 1969 they left West Memphis with five children and moved to Trumann to be close to the saw mill. In 1979, they moved to Earle after the saw mill was destroyed by fire. She worked as a librarian for 22 years. She lived in Earle for 26 years before moving to Jonesboro in 2005. Dot is survived by her children, Sara (Russ) Holmes of Signal Mountain, Tenn., David (Suzanne) Dickey of Pea Ridge, Bob (Belva) Dickey of Remington, Va., Camille (Ricky) Timbs of Trumann, Rex (Cindy) Dickey of Bella Vista; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, David Dickey Sr.; a brother, Claud Tingle Jr.; and a sister, Mary Selah. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Jonesboro with Rev. John Miles II and Rev. John Soward officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Memphis. Emerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Serving as active pallbearers will be Ben Dickey, Nathan Holmes, John Tyler Timbs, Joseph Timbs, Preston Timbs, Philip Dickey, Paul Dickey and Dewey Graves. Visitation will be Monday 5–7 p.m. at Emerson Memorial Chapel.
