Thelma Valentine Girerd

Thelma V. Girerd, 103, died Feb. 27, 2013, in Rogers. She was born on Feb. 14, 1910, in Lockney, Texas, to the late Samuel and Louanna (Adams) Hartley. Thelma's family moved to Rogers from Texas in a covered wagon soon after her birth. She married Joe Girerd during the Depression on Dec. 23, 1931, in Rogers, Ark., where for many years they managed the Model Laundry. Thelma later moved to Tulsa where she was a bookkeeper for a laundry service. After retiring, she moved back to Rogers where she worked at Mellor's Photo and from 1989-1996 at the Rogers Youth Center. Thelma was a lifelong member of the Downtown Church of Christ in Rogers. She is survived by her nephew, Dennis Musteen and his wife, Fern, of Virginia; and niece, Lou Musteen Thompson and husband, Charles, of Texas; and many great-nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe; brothers, Claude and Grover Hartley; sisters, Naomi Morrison, Daisy Jones and Ruth Musteen; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be Thursday, March 7, 2013, at 10 a.m. in Rollins Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Rogers City Cemetery.
