Sam Kurtz

Sam Kurtz, 78, of Rogers, AR went to meet his Lord and Savior Friday, June 21, 2013 at a family member's home in Wichita Falls after a short battle with cancer. A graveside service has been scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, June 27, at Crestview Memorial Park in Wichita Falls, Texas, in the Garden of the Cross, officiated by Chaplain Gwen Morman. Also, a memorial service has been scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Bland Chapel, 8531 Twin Coves Road in Rogers, Ark., officiated by David Mack for his friends and family in Rogers, Ark. Sam was born June 25, 1934, in Lykins, Ohio, to John and Marie (Caskey) Kurtz. He proudly served our country in the United States Army for three years. September 10, 1977, he married Beverlee June Myers Hartman in Broken Sword, Ohio, and together they raised three children. Sam worked at Timken Bearing Company in Ohio for 30 years and was a successful farmer. He was on the Grand Council of the Royal and Select Masons of Ohio, a member of the Order of Easter Star, and the Shriners. He lived in Ohio until 1979 when he and Beverlee moved to Texas to be near family. In 1994, they moved to Rogers, Ark., to begin working on their retirement home. Sam stayed very active during his retirement. He enjoyed his fishing and his pistol target shooting clubs, which he excelled at. He was an active member of the Rocky Branch Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Bland Chapel United Methodist Church in Rogers, Ark. Sam was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all. Mr. Kurtz is preceded in death by his loving wife, Beverlee Kurtz; parents; and brother-in-law, Ed Shumaker. Survivors include his three devoted children, Renee Woolley of Sandusky, Ohio, Richard Hartman of Burkburnett, Texas, Randel and wife Wendy Hartman of Iowa Park, Texas; sister, Marilyn Shumaker of Bucyrus, Ohio; brother, Ronald and wife, Eileen Kurtz of Bloomville, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Ricky Hartman, Tonya Fore, Reed Hartman, Amy Carender, Emily Carender, Luke Hartman, Shawn Sipe, Michael Sipe, Shiloh Sipe and Brandie Diekmann; several great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law and husband, Wendy and Donnie Giles. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls in appreciation of their loving care to Sam during his final days.
