John Mack Black

John Mack Black passed away on June 21, 2013. John was born in Rockton, Ill., on June 16, 1929. He was 84 years old. John is survived by his wife, Gladys Kitzman Black, who he married on Oct. 4, 1952; daughters, Rita and Colleen; sisters, Nancy (Beloit, Wis.), Betty (Clearwater, Fla.) and Marge (Capron, Ill.). His granddaughter, Madison Roberts, was the apple of his eye, who sat on his lap even at 12 years of age. John was a Marine who served in the Korean War. He was injured in battle and received the Purple Heart. John bravely fought through many illnesses throughout his lifetime. His father, Roy, passed away when John was 18 years old and he assumed responsibility for the family farm. John's mom, Lynnice passed away when he was 36. John worked as machinist supervisor for Woodward-Governor until he suffered his first of several heart attacks at 32. He soon left his job and bought a farm in Delavan, Wis. He moved to Lowell, Ark., in 1985. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 10 a.m., at Salem Lutheran Church (1800 West Emma, Springdale), followed by the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be held at the Salem Lutheran Cemetery.
