Thomas E. Short, 59, of Springdale passed away Friday, July 26, 2013, at his home. He was born Sept. 8, 1953, in Indianapolis, Ind., to Harold Short and Melvina Lewis. He moved to Kansas City, Kan., in 1975 and started driving a truck over the road. Tom, Johnny Edmiston, Bill Neeley and several other friends traveled many miles for many years together. Tom relocated to Arkansas where he made a permanent residence. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. When you couldn't find him on the lake or in the woods you could guarantee he was in the garage working on a project. Tom was a very dear friend and never met a stranger. He has many, many dear friends and a heart of gold. In his free time he loved to gather with friends and family to socialize and most of all play his guitar, as we all know his favorite was the possum, George Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Survivors include Janet Keith and his sons, Colton, Marcus, Justin and Clinton, all of the home; sons, Kevin Keith of Springdale, Thomas Short and Eric Short of Elkins and Mike Glasscock of Kansas City, Kan.; two daughters, Latisha McGowan of Elkins and Rhonda Laughlin of Lincoln; three sisters, Darlene and Theresa, both of Indiana, and Nora McCullough of Burns Flat, Okla.; uncle, Don Warner of Indiana; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and many friends. The family will receive friends at Beard's Funeral Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2013. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday with Rev. Johnny Drummond officiating. Burial will be at McCord Cemetery in Elkins under the direction of Beard's Funeral Chapel. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.beardsfuneralchapel.com.
