Marise Ruby Peterson, 90, of Bentonville, Ark., passed away Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Ark. Marise was born on June 28, 1923, in Mapleton, Kan., to Erven and Jessie Gilmore. Marise is survived by sons, Gregory Peterson and wife, Ann, of Shawnee, Kan., Roger Peterson and wife, Pam, Ken Peterson, Rick Peterson and wife, Redonna; daughter, Karen Roughton and husband, Arthur; son-in-law, Jim Stephens; twin sister, Bernice Ross; youngest sister, Carol Murrow. Marise leaves behind grandchildren, John Stephens, Jamie Stephens and wife, April, Tamara Shah and husband, Janak, Jacob Peterson and wife, Brandy, Timothy Tibbits and wife, Charlene, Anthony Tibbits and wife, Melinda, Jeremy Griffith, Shannon Peterson and wife, Jennifer, Erica Simmerman, Aaron Peterson and wife, Ashley, Brandon Roughton and Kyle Roughton. Marise also leaves behind 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by daughters, Marcia Stephens and Cindy Tibbits; sisters, Rita Curtis and Erma Mayberry. Marise moved from Mapleton, Kan., to Kansas City, Mo., after WWII and met her future husband on a blind date. After their marriage, Marise and Robert William Peterson started their journey of raising seven children. Marise was a devoted housewife and mother who thought nothing of being "without" as long as her children were provided for. The journey for Marise would bring her to Bentonville, Ark., where she continued to spread love and kindness to all who knew her. Her hobbies included sewing, word puzzles, reading, old television shows and making sure birthdays were remembered and special for those she loved. Marise also loved the color purple and butterflies. The family wishes to thank Cooperative Community Development, Osage Garden Seniors Apartments and The Gardens at Osage Terrace assisted living facilities for taking care of our mother and showing her the love and kindness she so deserved. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at Harbor of Praise Church, 8543 W. McNelly Road, off Benton County 40 West, in front of Ambassadors for Christ Academy. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July, 26, 2013, at Harbor of Praise Church. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, west of Hiwasse, Ark. Marise loved flowers, or if you would like, send a memorial contribution to Helping Hands Ministry of Bentonville, Ark., in her honor.
