Mary Ellen Plumlee McGee, 85, of Farmington, died July 17, 2013, at Katherine's Place in Fayetteville, Ark. Mary Ellen was born Jan. 28, 1928, in Springdale, Ark. She was the daughter of the late Rev. Henry Ellis and Minnie Bell Cooper Plumlee of Springdale, Ark. For the ten years Mary Ellen battled with cancer, she always kept a positive attitude and had a smile on her face for family and friends. She was a person of great faith and lived a life that truly expressed her love for the Lord. She no longer suffers with pain and the effects of her physical condition, but is rejoicing with her Lord in heaven. Mary Ellen went to school at Shady Grove and Springdale High School. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, going to church, working in Bible School, gospel music, traveling, camping, handwork and she loved children. She was a very loving and caring person to everyone around her. Second only to her devotion to her Lord was her love for her husband, Thomas Burton McGee. She enjoyed raising her family and sharing life with Burton for the past 61 years. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Fayetteville since 1966, Gideon Auxiliary for more than 25 years and attended Bible Study Fellowship in Northwest Arkansas for many years. She was a wonderful cook and a great companion to Burton. Mary and Burton were a team in life. They always worked together, even in the daily operation of their construction business. She is preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Ethel Graham, Leta Smith, Thelma Jennings and Rachel Williams; and two brothers, Houston Plumlee and Homer Plumlee. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Burton McGee of Farmington, Ark.; three children, Kathy Wallace and her husband, Michael Wallace, Brenda Laney and her husband, Randy Laney and Greg McGee and his wife, Karen Caselman McGee, all of Farmington, Ark.; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. The family wants to express their gratitude to the residents and staff at Katherine's Place in Fayetteville for the love, friendship and care that they provided Mary for the past year. The family also wishes to thank Highlands Oncology Group, Hope Cancer Resources and Circle of Life Hospice for the exceptional care and treatment that enabled Mary to live the past 10 years of her life to the fullest. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2013, at Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville, Ark. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 20, at Calvary Baptist Church in Fayetteville with Brother Phil Misenheimer officiating.
