Jimmie Elzey, 80, a lifelong resident of Bentonville, Ark., passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, in Rogers, Ark. He was born April 16, 1933, in Bentonville to Roy and Ruth Brown Elzey. He owned and operated Jim Elzey & Sons Excavating for 50 years. Jimmie was a member of the Bentonville Fire Department and retired after 20 years as a captain. His sons, Martin and Todd, have also served as members of the Bentonville Fire Department, and son, Shelby, is currently a member. During the Korean War, Jimmie served in the U.S. Navy and cruised the world. He was also a member of the VFW and Elks. Jimmie was a pillar of the community and was known and loved by many. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Jimmie married Betty Wooldridge on Jan. 9, 1959. Jimmie is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ruth Elzey, three brothers, Roy Elzey Jr., Charles Elzey and Bill Elzey, all of Bentonville. Survivors include his wife, Betty Elzey; three sons, Martin and fiance, Jennifer, Todd and wife, Brenda, Shelby and fiance, Janet, two granddaughters, Kayla and husband, Nick Meadows, and Kelli Elzey, all of Bentonville. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 14, 2013, at Stockdale-Moody Funeral Services in Rogers. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2013, at Faith Lutheran Church in Bentonville, with Cris Escher and Randy Featherston officiating. Burial will follow in Bentonville Cemetery. Memorials may be made in honor of Jimmy Elzey to the Bentonville Fire Department, PMA, 800 S.W. A St., Bentonville, AR 72712.
