Sharon Kaye Smith, 65, of Rogers, Ark., born Oct. 13, 1947, went to be with her Lord and Savior in paradise on July 9, 2013, at the Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville, Ark. Sharon was preceded in death by her father and mother, Clarence and Jenettie Thurber. Sharon was a member of the Church of Christ in Lowell, Cave Springs and Eureka Springs. Traveling was the only thing she loved more than cooking for her family and friends. She volunteered and selflessly gave to everyone she knew. Forgiveness, compassion, honesty and unconditional love were her strongest qualities. Christmas and Thanksgiving family gatherings were her most cherished memories. Sharon retired from the Bentonville Public Schools as the cafeteria manager at Washington Junior High in 2004 after being diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma. For nine years our beloved mother, wife, grandmother, aunt and friend battled this disease with the help of God, Baylor University Liver and Transplant Center, Highlands Oncology Group, her closest friends and the family that embraced her for the last 49 years. Sharon is survived by her husband of 46 years, Jimmy H. Smith of the home; son, C.W. and wife, Lyn, and grandsons, Elijah, Isaac and Jericho; daughter, Melissa Smith-Cook and husband, Stephen, and granddaughters, Stephanie Cook, Adrianna and Alexandria McLeod; sister-in-law, Carol McCoy and husband, Jesse, nephew, Michael and wife, Candice, niece, Jennifer Tatum and husband, Greg, niece, Nona Acuff and husband, Stan, great-nephew, Brandon and wife, Margo, great-niece, Amy Bell and husband, Owen; her siblings, Howard Thurber, Stephen Thurber and wife, Mary, and Debra Blackwell; four nephews, Troy, Aaron, Craig and Nicholas; and one niece, Ms. Lisa Thurber. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her honor to the Circle of Life Hospice at Legacy Village in Bentonville; or the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, 5526 W. 13400 South #510, Salt Lake City, UT 84096. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. To sign the guest book online, visit www.siscofuneral.com.
