Stephen Craig Allen

Stephen Craig Allin, M.D., 75, of Bella Vista, Ark., passed away July 3, 2013, at his home. He was born in Coffeyville, Kan., on Feb. 4, 1938, to Clifford Leon and JennieV (Garner) Allin. After growing up in Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma, Stephen graduated from Miami, Okla., High School in 1956. He attended Drury College in Springfield, Mo., for two years and then entered the United States Navy, serving as a Radarman on the USS Durant (DER359), which was home ported at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy, he enrolled at the University of Oklahoma, graduating in 1962. Stephen then went on to pursue a medical degree at the University of Oklahoma Medical School, graduating in 1966. He did his internship and residency training in Kansas City, Mo. This was followed by four years of family practice in Bellows Falls, Vt. He then entered the new field of emergency medicine, and in 1980, became one of the first physicians to become a Board Certified Emergency Medical Physician. Stephen joined the U.S. Navy Reserve Force in 1984 and served 15 years as a medical officer with the rank of Commander. After 32 years in the medical profession, he retired in 1998. Stephen was married to Madeline Kilgore on June 13, 1997, in Springfield, Mo. They moved to Bella Vista, Ark., from Branson, Mo., in 2004. Stephen was an avid golfer and worked at the Berksdale/Kingswood Golf Courses and belonged to several golf groups. He was a trivia buff and enjoyed traveling the world. Stephen was a proud father and beloved grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Madeline, of the home; his two children, son, Matthew Allin of Kansas City, Mo., and daughter, Janet Obert and husband, Brad, of St. Louis, Mo.; two stepchildren, stepdaughter, Amy Jo Kilgore and husband, Ralph, of Forsyth, Mo., and stepson, Andrew Kilgore and wife, Angela, of Blue Eye, Mo.; sister, Juliann Lane and husband, Glenn of Norman, Okla.; and brother, David Allin and wife, Jan, of Albuquerque, N.M.; and eight grandchildren, Molly, Katie, Ryan, Lucas, Shaelea, Kylie Jo, Chloe and Sophie. Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and JennieV Allin. No memorial services are planned. Commander Stephen Craig Allin, Medical Corps will have a U.S. Navy burial-at-sea.
