Niota Barnes

Niota Barnes was born on Sept. 2, 1922, in Cape Fair, Mo., to Lemuel and Elizabeth (Lizzy) Stone King. She departed his life on Jan. 19, 2013, in Bella Vista, Ark., at the age of 90. Niota moved to Bentonville, Ark., six years ago to be closer to her daughters, due to her Alzheimer's disease. She previously resided in Aurora, Mo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ruel Barnes; parents; two sisters, Kathleen Foster and Daisy Gentry; and a baby brother, Haley King. Survivors include four children, Sharon Vangunda and husband, Lloyde, of Pearce City, Mo., Cynthia Davis and husband, Charles, of Bella Vista, Ark., Connie Cox and husband, Jim, of Bentonville, Ark., and Fred Barnes of Memphis, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Alissa McGinn, Jared Cox, Ruth Anne Cox Thornton, Justin Barnes, Megan Barnes and Amanda Ross; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. and funeral will be 2 p.m. at the Aurora Church of Christ in Aurora, Mo., with Phil Williams officiating. Burial will be in Mars Hill Cemetery, Crane, Mo. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Fair Haven Children's Home, 3132 N. Fairhaven Loop, Strafford, MO 65757.
