Currin McNairy Nichol Jr., 84, of Pine Bluff, passed away Monday, January 14, 2013. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, June Cross Nichol of Pine Bluff; children, Ellen Cross Nichol of Pine Bluff, Currin McNairy Nichol, III of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and Marie Nichol Naas and her husband, Craig, and thier children, Katherine, Will and Ben of Tucson, Arizona; niece, Clair Norman of Little Rock and nephew, Craig McClain and wife, Elena, of Mill Valley, California; and many loving cousins. Currin was born in Pine Bluff to Selma and Currin Nichol Sr. He graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1945, attended Citadel Military College of South Carolina and then served in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict as a germ warfare instructor; after which he finished his degree at the University of Arkansas, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He began a successful career at Simmons First National Bank in Pine Bluff from where he retired in 1993. During this period he was an active member of many service and civic organizations. A lifelong member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Currin remained steadfastly committed to improving his church and community. He served five terms on the Vestry as church treasurer, and he was the chairman and founding superintendent of Trinity Episcopal Day School for 18 years, and many other church committees. In addition, his dedication extended to the enhancement of the community and its service of those in need. Currin grew beautiful roses, and remained an avid student of history. He combined his interest by serving as a volunteer as a volunteer at the Jefferson County Historical Museum. Amongst all his accomplishments his greatest love was for his family and his friends from all walks of life. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013 with The Reverend Dr. Walter Van Zandt Windsor officiating. There will be a reception following the service at the Parish Hall.
