William Stanley McLemore, age 87, slipped away from us on January 11, 2013 from complication of Alzheimer's. He was a kind and gentle man who never met a stranger. He always had a kind word and a smile on his face. He will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to have known him. Stan was born on December 10, 1925 and lived his entire life in Little Rock with the exception of time served in the US Navy during WWII. Stan served on three ships and beginning in the late 1980's, he and Dotty attended annual reunions with the crew of the USS Van Valkenburgh for many years. Stan was an insurance adjuster for 40+ years and ended his working career when he retired from the Arkansas State Dept. of Education, School Self-Insurance Dept., on June 30, 1991. Stan was predeceased by his parents, three brothers and one sister. He is survived by his loving wife, best friend and soul mate, Dorothy "Dotty" McLemore; two sons, Bill McLemore and his wife Diana of Maumelle, Arkansas; Mike McLemore and his wife Gail of Rogers Arkansas; stepson, Mike Brough and his wife Susie of Tomball, Texas; two daughters, Janet Younts of Nashville, Tennessee and Sherri Jo McLemore and her husband Ben Guise of Little Rock, Arkansas; brother David McLemore and his wife Linda of Fayetteville, Arkansas; ten grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; one goddaughter and a host of nephews, nieces and their children. Visitation will be at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m., on Thursday, January 17, 2013. Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 18, 2013 at First Christian Church, 1500 N. Mississippi Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Arkansas Programs and Services, 201 Markham Center Drive, Little Rock, Arkansas 72205, First Christian Church or a charity of your choice. A very special thank you to the amazing and loving staff at Pleasant Valley Living Center for their compassionate care of Stan these last two years.
