Gladys Marie Hess

Gladys Marie Hess, 81, a resident of Springdale, passed away Jan. 13, 2013, in Fayetteville at the Willard Walker Hospice Home. She was born Jan. 31, 1931, in Springdale, the daughter of Oscar S. and Bessie E. Cohea Harlan. Gladys and Albert Bernard Hess met at Farmington High School, later married and lived in several cities in Arkansas, including Fayetteville, Fort Smith, Little Rock and Hickory Ridge. They then moved to Columbia, Mo., and later to Broken Arrow, Okla. Finally they moved back to Springdale, where they retired in 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband and two sisters, Mildred Warford of Fayetteville and Lois Doster of Farmington. Gladys had been a member of three churches in Northwest Arkansas, Unity Baptist in Farmington, Elmdale Baptist and First Landmark Baptist Churches of Springdale. Survivors include two sons, Daryl Hickman and wife, Ginger of Springdale, Rex Hess and wife, Sue of Champaign, Ill.; two daughters, Dena Kroll and husband, Ken of Columbia, Mo., and Lynette Hess of Arlington, Texas; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at the Luginbuel Chapel in Prairie Grove. Burial will be in Rose Cemetery near Viney Grove.
