Elaine Speckmann Schmiegelow, 68, of Bentonville, Ark., passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 31, 1945, in Tecumseh, Neb., to Edward Speckmann and Wilma Rippe Speckmann. She graduated from Elk Creek Nebraska High School in 1963 where she was on the volleyball team, was a cheerleader and played softball in the summers. Elaine met and married her husband of 49 years, Vernon, in November 1964 in Johnson, Neb. After moving to Northwest Arkansas, she was employed at Daisy Manufacturing as the Assistant Credit Manager for 29 years before moving to JB Hunt Co. where she was a credit manager for five years prior to retiring to enjoy spending more time with her family. She loved shopping for clothes with her granddaughters, cooking, and listening to her granddaughter play the piano. She was a faithful, active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Rogers for 49 years and was the organist for over 25 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Dean Edward Speckmann. Elaine is survived by her husband, Vernon Leroy Schmiegelow; son, Brent Allen Schmiegelow and wife, Heather, of Little Rock, Ark.; grandchildren, Amy Brianne Schmiegelow, Margaret Leigh Schmiegelow both of Lockwood, Mo., Lucas Allen Schmiegelow and Landon Jay Schmiegelow, both of Little Rock, Ark.; two sisters, Donita Stuart and Vernell Schumacher, both of Lincoln Neb.; and brother, Randy Lee Speckmann, of Johnson, Neb. Her family will always remember Elaine as strong-willed, determined, focused, steadfast, wise and caring. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Stockdale-Moody Funeral Services in Rogers. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Rogers with Pastor Gordon Besel officiating. Burial will follow in Bentonville Cemetery.
