Virginia Marion Perrenod, Ph.D., 85, of Fayetteville passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at Willard Walker Hospice Home. She was born Oct. 6, 1928, in Lynchburg, Va., to Charles and Marion Perrenod. She was a professor of political science for over 20 years at the University of Houston and North Harris College. She was a volunteer for the Habitat for Humanity and the Hospice of the Carolina Foothills. She was a recipient of Governors Volunteer Service Award of North Carolina and a member of the Second Wind Hall of Fame of the Thermal Belt Friendship Council. She is preceded in death by her parents; and her beloved partner, Ken Thompson. Survivors include two daughters, Tracy Oates of Fayetteville and Vivien Tucker of Evansville, Ind.; son, Jim Oates of La Jolla, Calif.; brother, Charles Perrenod of Houston, Texas; grandson, Barley Oates of Fayetteville; three granddaughters, Carrie Fisher, Haley Tucker and Jamie Tucker, all of Evansville, Ind.; great-grandchildren, Samantha Fisher and Ryan Fisher, both of Evansville, Ind.; two nephews, three nieces, and several other family members and friends.
