Levi Kalin Underwood was born on Nov. 1, 1985, to B. Craig and Rinda Underwood. He was the youngest of five brothers and sisters. As with any child in this scenario, he was known as the "baby" of the family. After a few years of living what we thought was a normal life, we found out that he was diagnosed with Duchene's Muscular Dystrophy when he was 6 years old. This began the journey to a different kind of life for Levi and his family. Through the following years there would be surgery after surgery. There were braces made for his legs and cast colors to pick out. There were medications to take and occupational therapy appointments. There were also T-ball games and camp and family vacations. Levi could swim like a fish. He enjoyed watching and traveling to WWE Wrestling matches. He was active as any other child, even as he moved from walking into a wheelchair. He was incredibly smart and enjoyed science and history. He was immensely stubborn, yet beyond kind-hearted. He loved playing video games, watching movies, and most of all, he enjoyed the time of the people that loved him. Levi made an impact on everyone that he met. He was instantly "cool" and was treated like the rock star that he was. Everyone loved him. Most of all his family centered their entire lives on this amazing man. Every decision they made was about him. Levi loved Christmas. Some might think he loved it because it became a game for his family to get everything on his long-awaited list, but I believe that it was because he had everyone that he loved together. Levi was happiest at these moments. He loved his family and his family loved him. He is a hero in our eyes. He fought an unforgiving battle and did it with the utmost dignity. This disease took the use of his legs, made it beyond difficult to use his hands and took him from us way too early. But this disease did not win, because it did not take Levi's huge heart, it did not take the massive love that we all hold in our hearts for him and it will not take his legacy that will be honored. Levi is preceded in death by his grandfathers, Allen Underwood and Bud Kinnaman. Levi passed away Nov. 30, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Rogers. He is survived by his parents, Billy Craig and Rinda Underwood; and his uncle, Keith Underwood of the home; his brother, Jason Underwood and wife, Sandra, of Bentonville, Ark.; three sisters, Jenna Caldwell and husband, Justin, of Fort Richardson, Alaska, Lindsey King and husband, Jeff, of Rogers, Ark., and Janelle Underwood of Birmingham, Ala.; his grandparents, Virginia and Randy Pike of Decatur, Ark., and Delores Mitchell of Bentonville, Ark.; two nieces and five nephews, and many other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at Benton County Funeral Home, 306 N. 4th St., Rogers, with Gary Williams officiating.
