Lois A. Rath

Lois A. Rath, 79, of Bella Vista, Ark., passed away on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, at the Specialty Hospital of Mid America, Overland Park, Kan. She was born on Sept. 9, 1934, to Irma (Maschke) and Albert Remde in Youngstown, Ohio. As a child she moved to various places; she attended schools in Detroit, Mich., Waukegan, Ill., and went on to continue her education at Iowa State University. After graduation, she worked at universities and hospitals as a dietitian, and also a consulting dietitian for nursing homes. On June 16, 1956, she married Gerald Rath in Waukegan, Ill. After marriage, they lived in various states due to Gerald's career. In 1995, they retired to Bella Vista, Ark. She was a member of Bella Vista Lutheran Church, where she was active in the choir. She was also involved in the church sponsored food pantry. Lois loved singing in the church and community choirs in the various communities where they lived. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge, mahjong and playing tennis. She also enjoyed travelling nationally and internationally during retirement. But most of all she loved spending time with her family. She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Gerald Rath; brother, Richard (Sandy) Remde; son, Larry (Kathy) Rath; two daughters, Robin (Keith) Spickler, Karen (Jeff) Gire; and nine grandchildren. Graveside service will be 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kan. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at Bella Vista Lutheran Church, Bella Vista, Ark. In lieu of flowers, family suggest memorial contributions to Bella Vista Lutheran Church food pantry or charity of donor's choice.
