John Austin Burden

John Austin Burden, 67, of Bentonville, Ark., died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at his home. He was born June 22, 1946, in Madisonville, Ky., to Harry and Elizabeth (Miller) Burden. He was a psychology professor for 30-plus years in McPherson, Kan., and at NWACC in Bentonville, Ark. John enjoyed woodworking, electronics and cars. He was a lifetime learner and had a thirst for knowledge. John considered himself to be a "love socialist" and spent his life supporting the underdog. Countless students were inspired by his ability to accept people just how they are while encouraging them to see all they could accomplish, if only they believed in themselves. He enjoyed causing a stir and getting people to think. At the end of his life, he will be remembered for not always caring so much about what the majority thought, but more about how he could help those that the majority had forgotten. John was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Glenda Martz. He is survived by his wife, Judy Burden; one son, Tyson Burden and his wife, Carmen, of Eureka Springs, Ark.; one daughter, Victoria Burden of Bentonville; one sister, Janet Winstead and her husband, David, of Madisonville, Ky.; and two grandchildren. A family graveside service will be held in Kentucky. Arrangements by Epting Funeral Home of Bentonville. Condolences: www.eptingfuneralhome.webs.com.
