Richard Lee 'Dick' Halbrook

Richard Lee "Dick" Halbrook, 70, a resident of Farmington, passed away after a long battle with cancer on Aug. 25, 2013, at his home. He was born Oct. 21, 1942, in Indianapolis, Ind., the son of Ralph and Viola Fern McNeese Halbrook. Richard was raised by his grandparents, and uncle and aunt, Art and Ethel Pfeiffer, since he was 12 years old at Shelbyville, Ill. Richard graduated from Shelbyville High School in the class of 1960 and attended college at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He was well-known floor-covering specialist in the area for 38 years and horse show judge. He loved his family and horses. He was an excellent horseman and quarter-horse owner and breeder. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Wanda Halbrook of the home; three daughters, Rhonda Keys and husband, Jon, of Farmington, Kimberly Stipe and husband, Roger, of Little Rock, and Kelly Sullins and fiance, James Rutledge, of Fayetteville; two brothers, Col. Earl Halbrook of San Antonio, Texas, and Lloyd Halbrook of Xenia, Ill.; three granddaughters, Chynna Ann Stipe, Lily Ann Stipe and Pearlie Dawn Rutledge. He was much loved, gracious, kind, sweet and will be solely missed. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Luginbuel Chapel. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, 2 p.m. at the Farmington Cemetery Pavilion. Pallbearers will be Travis Freeman, Tommy Murphy, Larry Broyles, Ben McMullin, Ed Perry and Paul Ahrens. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Long, Jon Keys, Roger Stipe and James Rutledge.
