Dorthie Rae Carter

Dorthie Rae Carter, 77, of Springdale, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at her home. She was born April 4, 1936, in Belton, Ark., to James Thomas and Ethel Floyd Poplin. Dorthie married Loy Lee Carter in April 27, 1958, in Huntsville. She accompanied her husband on numerous overseas assignments with the federal government for 28 years. They retired to Springdale in 1986, where she was a waitress at Neal's Cafe for 20 years. She was also a licensed beautician in Arkansas and Louisiana. Dorthie was a member of Lower Campground Baptist Church in Marble, and the Southern Baptist Church in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She loved square-dancing, knitting, quilting, cooking, bingo and spending time caring for her family. She was preceded in death by three sisters and six brothers. She is survived by her husband, Loy Carter, of the home; three sons, Jeffery Carter and wife, Anita, of Garfield, Michael Carter and wife, Diane, of Springdale, Steven Carter and wife, Tish, of Rogers; one brother, Archie Poplin and wife, Georgia, of Siloam Springs; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, at Heritage Funeral Home. Interment will be at Friendship Cemetery.
