Virginia Baker May, "Grammy," born Aug. 29, 1918, went home to the Lord; her husband, S.J. (Tex) May; and daughter, Jill Marie May, on Aug. 4, 2013. Born in Rockford, Ill., she spent summers in Fairberry, Ill., with grandparents and later moved with her parents to Menomonie, Wis. She graduated from Stout College with a business degree, but ended up in Fort Worth, Texas, where she met a young flying instructor that became her husband in 1944. They moved around with husband's job, like Detroit, Mich., Tulsa, Okla., Chicago, Ill., and finally retired in Fayetteville, Ark., as gentleman ranchers. As a family, they loved to travel and experience the USA's highway and byways. She was interested in many social and artistic projects, like Travelers Aid, YMCA, Garden Clubs, Elder Hostels and the Ozark Dulcimer Society. Deciding home repair was too much trouble as a widow, she moved to Butterfield Trail Village, and very much enjoyed the socializing and friends she found there. She is remembered by family, Mike (son) and Katie May; Jan (daughter) and Jim Spear; Mark (son) and Sheila May; Eric (grandson) and Alana Garman; and great-grandchildren, Drew, Dillon, Reese, Evan and Pepper Garman. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. A graveside service for family will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Butterfield Trail Village nursing scholarship fund. Nelson-Berna Funeral Home handled the cremation arrangements.
