John DuWayne Key, 67, of Bentonville, Ark., passed away July 28, 2013, at Ashley Health and Rehab in Rogers, Ark., where he received loving and compassionate care during his illness. He was born May 12, 1946, in Rogers to John Key and Marcella Brower Key. He graduated from Rogers High School on a Friday in 1964 and started working for Southwestern Bell on Monday where he retired after 38 years of service to the community. Chances are if you had a phone installed in the '60s and '70s, John installed it. He was known as the "telephone man." He was a friendly, outgoing person with many dear friends. He was also known for his joke telling and always had one ready when asked. He never met a stranger and always had a smile for you. That smile will be sorely missed. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Linda Key. John is survived by his wife of 25 years, Gail Beaver Key; three sons, Leslie Key and wife, Alanna, of Bella Vista, Ark., Charles Key of Bentonville, Jason Bolton of Bentonville; two brothers, Jim Key of Fayetteville, Ark., Bill Key and wife, Sherry, of Rogers; two sisters, Vicky Key of Rogers, Elizabeth Suobank and husband, David, of Rogers; eight grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 406 W. Central in Bentonville, with Pastor Roger Joslin officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in John Key's name at any Arvest Bank location, or to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Stockdale-Moody Funeral Services in Rogers. Words of comfort may be expressed or memories shared at stockdalefuneral.com.
