James Leroy "Bootch" Quin

James Leroy "Bootch" Quin, 87, of Springdale, Ark., beloved husband of Patricia K.A. Quin for almost 61 years, passed away peacefully on Aug. 1, 2013. He was preceded by his parents, Oliver "OB" and Rose Elva Quin; his brother, Joseph L. Clawson Sr., and his sister Joy Louise Hiers. He is survived by his sister, Smidge Lewis of Bossier City, La. James was born in Shreveport, La., and joined the Navy the day he graduated from high school. He was attached to the 1st Marine Division, as a Navy Corpsman, during the battles of Peleliu and Okinawa. He was also sent to North China as a Corpsman. When WWII ended, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as a photo interpreter and served his country for over 22 years. He also served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. After retiring from military service, James and Patricia served as missionaries with New Tribes Mission. They retired to NW Arkansas, where they lived until his death. Besides his wife, Patricia, James is survived by his two sons, David C. Quin of Springdale, Ark., and Robert Pierre Quin of Joplin, Mo. James has three daughters, Deborah A. (Quin) Bellante of Springdale, Ark.; Catherine (Quin) Battaglia of Palmdale, Calif., and Cynthia P. (Quin) Roberts of Largo, Fla. James is also survived by 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. James was a proud member of the Marine Corp League, Veteran of Foreign Wars, China Marines, American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans (DAV). He was honored multiple times for his service to our country. James attended Calvary Chapel in the Ozarks. In his paperwork was found the following handwritten note: "Born December 4, 1925, in Shreveport, Louisiana. Born again in 1956 (Ephesians 2:8-9). By the grace of God am now with my Savior. II Corinthians 5:8." The note was signed: J. L. Quin. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of the Fayetteville V.A. Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Their care, dedication, and desire to provide quality care over the past week were a blessing to the entire family. Military funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville. A memorial service is pending.
