Rex Wheeler, 68, of Rogers, passed away Friday, April 5, 2013 at his home. He was born Sept. 4, 1944, in Wichita, Kan., to Ira and Lorene Barrett Wheeler. Rex graduated high school in Childress, Texas, in 1963, and then attended Wichita State University receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1971. He taught school for a number of years, then built homes and cabinets until his retirement. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, boating, golfing, playing with his kitties, spending time with his family and hosting his annual family reunions. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ira Wane Wheeler. He is survived by his wife, Judy (Durham) Wheeler of the home; three children, Susie Braden and husband Gary of Rogers, Daniel Jackson and wife Kim of Colorado Springs, Debby Houck of Rogers; two brothers, Jondell Wheeler and wife Bonni of San Jose, Calif., Glen Wheeler and wife Brenda of Missoula, Mont.; six grandchildren, Kelsey Howell and husband Kendall, Lacie Braden, Joshua Rex Braden, Danielle Jackson, Brittany Houck, David Houck; and two great-grandchildren, Bri and Kaydee Howell. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 8, at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel in Springdale, online guest book at heritageofnwa.com.
