Joan Myers Norton, age 69, of Springdale passed away April 4, 2013, at the Earlene Howard Circle of Life Hospice House in Springdale. She was born Aug. 21, 1943, in New York City, N.Y., the daughter of George and Pauline Hammond Myers. She was a Christian and had retired from Pacific Bell after 26 years. She was a graduate of Mena High School, Mena, Ark., and also graduated from the University of Arkansas with a BS in home ecomonics. Joan enjoyed traveling, reading, doing cross-stitch, cooking and was an angel therapist. On March 25, 2013, she was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary International. Mrs. Norton is survived by her husband, Michael Norton of the home; one stepdaughter, Diana Norton of Los Altos, Calif.; one brother, George Myers and his wife, Deborah, of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Judy Leyba and her husband, Fred, of Springdale, Nancy Hamilton and her husband, Bob, of Huntsville, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, April 13, 2013, at 4 p.m. at Rockspire near Eureka Springs, with the Rev. Stewart Smith officiating. Cremation was under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home.
