Margaret Bell Appelman Bell

Margaret Bell Appelman Hay, 87, of Fayetteville, Ark., passed away Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, in Fayetteville, Ark. She was born Sept. 2, 1925, in Enterprise, Iowa, to Van Buren Appelman and Pauline Eleanor (Goldfuss) Appelman. She was a homemaker who was brilliant at crossword puzzles. She loved her family, her friends and her cats! She was a patient woman who managed to serve as secretary to her husband as he authored 12 business textbooks and hosted his banjo and Ragtime Perfessor's bands in their endless practice sessions. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert "Bob" Hay, who was a former Dean of the University of Arkansas School of Business and longtime Professor of Marketing. They were married on July 23, 1944, in Great Bend, Kan., and were together for 61 years until Bob's death in 2006. Margaret was preceded in death by both daughters, Sue Ann Fye and Carol Cooke, as well as her sister, Helen "Susie" Powell, and brother, Paul Appleman. Margaret is survived by two granddaughters, Taj Hay Navratil and her husband, Brian, of Locust Grove, Okla., and Linda Fye of Las Vegas, Nev., her brother, Van B. Appleman and his wife, Molly, of Catoosa, Okla., her son-in-law, Reggie Cooke of Locust Grove, Okla., three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at 1 p.m.at the Fayetteville National Cemetery. Visitation will be at Moore's Chapel from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3. Memorial contributions may be made to the Walton School of Business at the University of Arkansas.
