Donald E. Mayes

Donald E. Mayes, 77, of Springdale died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, at Regency Hospital in Springdale. He was born June 5, 1935, in Goshen to Kendall and Emma Bessie Kelly Mayes. Donald was a brick mason and he also worked for Hiland Dairy for many years. He was a member of Cross Church of Springdale where he was active in the bus ministry. Donald served in the United States Navy. He was a member of the Tired Iron of the Ozarks Branch 37 and Blacksmithers of Arkansas. Donald was an icon to everyone and a great friend to all. He had great devotion and passion for hunting diamonds at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Mollie McKinney Mayes of the home; three daughters, DeAnne McGaugh and husband, Alex, of Ocean Springs, Miss., Dawn Barnes and husband, Michael, of Springdale and Delores Breeding and husband, Brant, of Springdale; three brothers, Carl Mayes of Morrow, Bobby Preston Mayes of Paradise, Mont., and Larry Mayes of Fayetteville; one sister, Peggy Wilson of Fayetteville; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at noon at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale, with the Rev. Charlie Foster and Joe Dorman officiating. Burial will be at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville with Military Honors. Visitation will be on Thursday from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
