Gerald "Jere" Carey

Gerald C. "Jere" Carey, 70, of Bella Vista, Ark., passed away on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville. He was born in Alliance, Neb., Nov. 29, 1941, son of Walter L. and Kathleen E. Carraher Carey. Jere was raised in Lincoln, Neb., graduated from Pius X High School and St. Benedict's College, Atchison, Kan. He received his M.A. from Southwest Missouri State, Springfield, Mo. Jere also was a high school biology teacher, coach and guidance counselor. He is survived by his wife, Allene "Ally" McDaniel Carey of the home; a brother, Michael T. Carey of Kona, Hawaii; and a sister, Kathleen E. Carey of Longmont, Colo. Jere was the father of nine children; 14 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; also a stepson, his wife and stepgranddaughter, a stepdaughter and stepgrandson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Thomas W. Carey. He was a resident of Bella Vista, Ark., since 1993. He owned and operated Carey Real Estate until his retirement. Jere was a proud member of the Nebraska Club and served as president many times and was an active member. He was also an avid golfer and winner of many golf tournaments since the age of 14. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bella Vista Animal Shelter. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at 11 at Mildred Cooper Chapel in Bella Vista.
