William Lyman Acuff Sr., age 82, of Springdale, Ark., passed away Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at his residence. William was born Jan. 17, 1930, to William Linzey Acuff and Easter Luvenia Acuff in Pyatt, Ark. He served in the U.S. Army. On Oct. 17, 1953, William would marry Ada Glennell Hayes, who for 48 years would be his best friend and confidante. William was a loving father and avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed fishing, camping and carpentry work, and anything that allowed him to be outside. William was no stranger to work and worked at the Tyson Feed Mill where he retired. William loved nothing more than to spend time with his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ada; a son, Walter Lee Acuff; a daughter, Marlynn and her husband, Floyd Kelly; two grandsons, Leonard Limond Kelly and James Robert Kelly; one granddaughter, JoeLynn Martin. William is survived by his four children, Catherine Moore and husband, Mike, of Springdale, Ark., Debra Law and husband, Thomas, of Cliffy, Ark., William L. Acuff Jr. of Springdale, Ark., and Thomas Acuff and wife, Mary, of Cliffy, Ark.; four sisters, Luvenia Kiersey, Ethel Collins, both of Springdale, Ark., Evaline Long of Berryville, Ark., and Theda May Harp of Green Forest, Ark.; 18 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Chapel in Springdale, Ark., with the Rev. TJ Mobbs officiating. Committal service to follow at the Oakland Cemetery in Fayetteville, Ark. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Springdale, Ark.
