Cissie Warren Johnson

Cissie (Jessye) Warren Johnson, 69, of Eatonton (formerly of Dunwoody), Ga., passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, with her loving family by her side. Cissie valiantly fought a battle against cancer for 2 ½ years. Cissie was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Cissie was born in Rapid City, S.D., in 1943. Growing up a military brat, she lived in Japan, Washington, D.C., Florida and Arkansas. After her sophomore year at University of Arkansas, she married Phil Johnson in 1963. Phil went to work for Carnation Company and their travels began. Cissie and Phil lived in nine states in 12 years, settling in Dunwoody, Ga., in 1978. Cissie was a devoted and inventive homemaker. She raised three girls and still managed to find the time to make delicious homemade meals and bread. Cissie loved to play bridge and had many hobbies — decorating, ceramics, watercolors, needlepoint and gourmet cooking. Cissie loved people and had a heart like no other. Cissie was very involved in her community, church and volunteer organizations (Project Read, Hospice, Care Fellowship, Stephen Ministry). She and Phil loved to entertain, dance, play bridge and were also world travelers. In her own words — "My greatest accomplishments are my three children and five grandchildren." Cissie will be sorely missed, but we have assurance she is in Heaven with her Lord and Savior. Cissie is predeceased by parents, Edgar and Elizabeth Warren; and daughter, Tracy Johnson. Survivors include husband of almost 50 years, Phil Johnson; daughters, Kelly Flack and Erin Kirby; brother, Robert Warren (Elkins, Ark.); grandchildren, Grayson, Hayden, Riley, Elise and Felix; and sons-in-law, Rick Flack and Ken Kirby. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Lake Oconee Lutheran Church, 1089 Greensboro Road, Eatonton, GA 31024, (706) 485-4600 with Pastor Ron Schornhorst and Pastor Bernard Campbell officiating. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to Lake Oconee Lutheran Church. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W. Broad St., Greensboro, GA, (706) 453-2626, is in charge of arrangements. Visit us at www.mccommonsfuneralhome.com to sign the online guest register.
