David Calvin Fairbanks, 74, of Evansville, died Sept. 2, 2012, in Fayetteville. He was born Nov. 30, 1937, in Sterling, Ill., the son of Calvin J. and Evelyn Eads Fairbanks. David served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1964 and graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1962 with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Throughout his life, he was active and held office in many civic organizations including: Boy Scouts, Jaycees and Lions Club. He helped found the Trinity Episcopal School in Marshall, Texas, as a member of the school's initial board of directors. David served on the church Vestry as both Jr. and Sr. Warden for Episcopal Churches in Marshall and Jacksonville, Texas. Professionally, David worked for over 30 years as an electrical engineer and in management for SWEPCO and SESCO, electric utilities operating in the East Texas area. He retired from Texas Utilities, which is now Energy Holdings, as Vice President for System Operations of the East Texas Division. After moving back to Arkansas, he was instrumental in the foundation of the Washington Water Authority. David also achieved membership in the Arkansas Academy of Electrical Engineers. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Young of Fairbanks; one son, Tom Fairbanks of Evansville; two daughters, Sara Israel and husband, Perry of Little Rock and Amy Pavlovic of Evansville; one brother, Robert Fairbanks and wife, Val of Davenport, Iowa; two sisters, Patt Zamora and husband, John of Davenport, Iowa, and Judy Blackwell and husband, Scott of Kokomo, Ind.; one sister-in-law, Mary Jo Parker of Evansville; three grandchildren, Maggie Israel, Luka Pavlovic and Finn Pavlovic; a special aunt, Virginia Sterne of Davenport, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville. Memorials may be made to the Lincoln Public Library, P.O. Box 967, Lincoln, AR 72744.
