Gladys Woodside

Gladys Woodside, 84, of McKinney, Texas, formerly of Branson, Mo., passed away Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012. She was born Jan. 18, 1928, in St. Louis, Mo., to Edward John Utz and Velma Elizabeth Waggoner (Utz). Gladys was a strong, independent person and a wonderful mother to her five children. She grew up in the St. Louis, Mo. area, raised her children near Beaver Lake in Rogers, Ark., then lived independently in Branson, Mo., before moving to McKinney, Texas. Gladys retired from Union Carbide in Rogers, Ark. She loved laughter and was known for her many jokes, especially among her Red Hat friends. She was a Boy Scout leader, enjoyed the outdoors, loved to fish on Beaver Lake and was an accomplished painter. She also enjoyed the shows in Branson, playing Bingo, and her many trips to Laughlin and Las Vegas, Nev., and Tunica, Miss. Gladys was preceded in death by two sons, James Kenneth Hudson Jr. of Arkansas and Terry Wayne Woodside of Rogers, Ark.; her son-in-law, Steven Leonard Scherer of McKinney, Texas; her brother-in-law, Carl Finnern of St. Louis, Mo.; and her very dear friend, Don Purvis of Branson, Mo. Gladys is survived by her son, Steve Woodside of Camdenton, Mo.; two daughters, Patti Morgan of Branson, Mo., Kathy Scherer of McKinney, Texas; one sister, Susie Finnern of St. Louis, Mo.; good friend, Mike Douglas of McKinney, Texas; Wayne Woodside of Rogers, Ark.; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at Snapp's Funeral Home, with her funeral and celebration of her life following at 2:30 p.m.
