Verna M. Self
Verna M. Self, age 70, of Hindsville, Ark., went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, surrounded by her family at the Northwest Medical Center in Springdale, Ark.
Verna was born on April 30, 1942, in Bonair, Iowa, a daughter of Omer and Florence Croxton. She was a member of the First Church of Nazarene in Springdale and retired from the Springdale Public School District. Her hobbies included baking, photography and gardening. Verna loved spending time entertaining her family and friends at their cabin in Hindsville, which was surrounded by her beautiful flower gardens, cats, wildlife and hundreds of hummingbirds that she cared for, providing a peaceful serenity for all to enjoy which mirrored her own peaceful, caring nature.
Verna is survived by her husband of 50 years, Bobby Self of the home; three daughters, Brenda Embry and husband, Allen of Hindsville, Ark., Janet Fawcett of Ft. Smith, Ark., and Laurie Brasuell and husband, Tray of Prairie Grove, Ark.; three grandchildren, Matthew Embry and wife, Misty of Huntsville, Ark., Jacob Embry and wife, Kiersten of Booneville, Ark., and Ty Brasuell of Prairie Grove, Ark.; one sister, Roberta Stith of Wesley, Ark.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, George Croxton; and one grandson, Kevin Embry.
Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Chapel in Springdale, Ark., with Pastor Dale Coble and Pastor Harry Oxford officiating. Committal service will be held at the Mossville Cemetery at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct., 26, 2012.
