Bob Don Meek

Bobbie Don "Bob" Meek, 81, of Decatur, Ark., died Oct. 4, 2012, at Circle of Life Hospice, Springdale, Ark. Born Sept. 19, 1931, in Decatur, Ark., he was the son of D.O. "Bus" Meek and Goldie Marie Holt Meek. He lived his entire life in Decatur, and was a diesel mechanic, shop manager and truck driver for Bredehoeft, and shop manager for Peterson Industries. He was a cattle and poultry farmer. Bob was a past member of the Masonic Lodge, Gentry 222. He served on the Benton County Fair Board, and served as president and member of Decatur School Board for 20 years. Bob also volunteered as a baseball coach for youth and adults, was a member of the Cattleman's Association and Limousin Association, and was an honorary member of the Decatur FFA. Bob was a member of the Colcord Church of Christ, Colcord, Okla. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved to show cattle and helped many kids do so. On June 16, 1950, he married Elba "Joan" Patterson in Decatur. He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Cody Len Meek and Kyle Don Meek; two brothers, Homer Dale Meek and Earl Dean Meek; and two sisters, Virgie Leta Maddox Ratzlaff and Bonnie Faye Jones. Survivors include his wife Elba "Joan" of the home; three sons, Larry Meek and wife, Janet, and Leonard Dean Meek and wife, Tammy, all of Decatur, and Jo Meek and Dorenda, of Cassville, Mo.; two daughters, Barbara Stichka Warren of Gentry, Ark., and Bev Saunders and husband, Al, of Colcord, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Rowena Meek of Gravette, Ark.; and one brother-in-law, Sam Ratzlaff. Pallbearers will be Trever Meek, Briar Meek, Brent Meek, Roger Saunders, Ryan Saunders, Jason Finnell and John Pool. Honorary pallbearers will be Kent Coffee, Gene Wilmoth, Dan Henderson, Bobby Philpott, Mike Leonard, Floyd Norris and Bobby Rush. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at the Colcord Church of Christ, with Mr. Larry Ellis and Eric Saunders officiating. Burial will follow at Falling Springs Cemetery, near Decatur. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at the Decatur Community Building, Decatur, Ark.
