Sherman Wayne Kinyon

Sherman Wayne Kinyon, 88, of Centerton, Ark. died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Northwest Medical Center of Benton County in Bentonville, Ark. He was born Aug. 2, 1924, in Portland, Ore., the son of Grace Batchelor and Audily Claire Kinyon. Sherman graduated from Bentonville High School in 1943. He attended the University of Arkansas for one year. He then attended and graduated Officer's Candidate School with Stateside Infantry Training as First Lieutenant. He proudly served the United States with the Army during the World War II. Upon arriving back from his military service, he continued to serve over 42 years of public service to the Northwest Arkansas residents. Sherman was a deacon of the First Baptist Church of Centerton for 63 years. He served as Benton County Circuit Clerk for six years. Mr. Kinyon also served as Benton County Judge and Juvenile Judge for eight years. In 1964, he presented a dedicatorial address at Benton County Sunshine School, which was put in Congressional Record. He also served as the chairman of the Quorum Court JP District 2 for six years and was First Lieutenant Governor of Kiwanis Convention. Mr. Kinyon was appointed Centerton mayor for one and a half years and elected Centerton mayor for 12 years. He was a volunteer fireman for the City of Centerton for 23 years, and helped build the first Centerton Fire Truck. Sherman was Chairman of Benton County Rural Development Board and co-sponsor of 2-Ton Water Project. Sherman served on the Farmer's Exchange Board for many years. He was a retired cattle and poultry farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Vernon; one sister, Evelyn; one nephew, Lloyd Kinyon. Sherman was a loving husband of 63 years, a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. Sherman is survived by his wife, Billie Coffelt Kinyon, of the home; two sons, Sheman E. Kinyon, of Centerton, Ark., Ronald W. Kinyon and his wife, Diane, of Colcord, Okla.; one daughter, Sharon Barber, of Bentonville, Ark., his twin brother, Allen Kinyon and his wife, Veda, of Centerton, Ark.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Centerton with Brother Stuart Bell officiating. Interment will follow at Benton County Memorial Park in Rogers. Pallbearers will be: Jeff Barber, Lance Barber, Christopher Barber, Justin Barber, Brad Kinyon, Jamie McManus, Joe Davitt, Jason DeCorte, and Michael Cooper.
