Dora Millicent Barnum (nee Williams), longtime Garfield resident, passed away peacefully on Nov. 8, 2012. Dora was born April 8, 1925, in Rothwell, New Brunswick, Canada, the first daughter to Hilda May Williams (nee Swarbrick) and Charles Robert Williams who emigrated to Canada from Bolton, Lancashire, England in 1924. She is survived by grandchildren Leslie Uphaus of Chicago, Ill., and Austin Uphaus of Mason, Mich. She is missed by her sister, Hilda Burns (Gord) of Hamilton, Ontario; brother, James Kenney (Sharon) of Delta, British Columbia and sister-in-law Audrey Williams of Victoria, British Columbia. Dear sweet auntie Dora was lovingly supported in life by her nieces and nephews, Marsha Williams, Ted Williams, Terry Oneal, Wendy Koros, Bobby Oneal, Jane McGuire, Hilda Burns and John Burns. Dora was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Gladys O'Neal (Clyde, also deceased); her brother, Charlie Williams; her stepfather, Walter Kenney, and recently her son Raymond Nagel of Jackson, Mich. Dora also survived her two dear husbands, Ray Nagel, originally of Johnson Creek, Wis., and Edward Marshall Barnum, of Del Norte, Rio Grande, Colo. With her first husband Ray, an Aeronautical Engineer, Dora lived an exciting life in Buffalo NY, New Jersey, and Phoenix before settling in Battle Creek, Mich. After Ray's long battle with tuberculosis, Dora was left a single parent. She worked hard to make ends meet but never lost her positive attitude, and made lifelong friends. After her son married, Dora met Ed, a Sargent in the Marine Air Corps, and moved to Woodland, Colo. On retirement they moved with Ed's mother to a farm in Garfield, Ark. Dora was a positive outgoing person who had a love for farming, gardening, birds, wildlife and her beloved animal friends (especially pigs). She developed strong friendships and shared her happiness with one and all. She also liked nicknacks, stuffed animals, and anything in a catalogue. She has at times enjoyed perfume, makeup, pretty clothes and a good meal, not to mention coffee and great conversation. Her many loyal friends, and beloved family will miss her very much. Dora could not have lived her long life on the farm without the love and support of her Arkansas family, Jerrie and Lillian See, Linda McBride, Evette Hauser, Dian Sosaya, Jim and Becky Ford, Janet and Linda Mack, and many others. You were with Dora to the end. We, the family thank you from the bottom of our heart. Dora's family wishes to thank the staff of Jamestown Nursing and Rehab Center and The Circle of Life Hospice for the loving care Dora received. Contributions in memory of Dora can be made to The Humane Society, Rogers, Ark., or The Turpentine Creek Wildlife Reserve, Eureka Springs, Ark. Family and friends are invited to share their remembrances of Dora at http://memorialwebsites.legacy.com/deardora/Homepage.aspx.
