Billy Jack 'Mercer Lillian' Whayne Holcomb

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. today, May 17, 2012, at Crestlawn Memorial Park in Conway, Ark., for 94-year-old Billy Jack (Mercer Lillian) Whayne Holcomb. She was born Feb. 24, 1918, to Robert C. and Phena Ball Whayne in Bentonville, Ark., where she married Warren G. Holcomb in 1946. She worked as a house mother at Arkansas Children's Colony in Conway and was a seamstress all of her life, as well as a babysitter for many families throughout the years. She was also a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She is preceded in death by her husband; mother and father; a brother, Robert C. Whayne Jr.; and a sister, Jane Cameron. She is survived by a son, Larry J. Holcomb and Colleen of Elgin, Okla.; a daughter, Janie R. Hickman and Bill of Stuttgart, Ark.; her grandchildren, Ryan W. and Tonya Holcomb of Bentonville, Ark., Robert (Bobby) C. Holcomb and Candace Chang of Bentonville, a step-grandson, Brent Beeson of Elgin, Okla., Will and Christy Hickman, Elizabeth Flake and Marshall Barnes, and Ray Hickman and Amy Jo Ferguson of Stuttgart, Ark., Piper and Jude Ault of Adona, Ark., and Whitney and Greg Tibbett of Minden, La.; and eight great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many friends and her church family in Poteau, Okla. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the First Baptist Church, 300 N.
