Helen M. (Marie and Mommy) Batman, age 73, succumbed to a years long illness Friday, June 15, 2012. She was born Helen Marie Alfred in Gary, Texas on November 19, 1938. She worked passionately as an interior decorator in Shreveport, La. where she lived for 25 years. She retired at age 57 as an interior decorator after moving to Clarksville, Ark. About six months later, she realized her lifelong dream of opening her restaurant, Helen's Kitchen. People from all over Arkansas lovingly called her "The Pie Lady" for the 11 years that it remained open. Helen is preceded in death by her son, Gary Ward Riggs of Thomasville, Georgia, her parents Jesse and Marie Alfred and her Aunt and Uncle Dovie and George Sanford all of Texas. She is survived by her soulmate and husband Claude Harrison Batman Jr. of Ozone, Ark., son, Spencer Eugene Riggs of Shreveport, La., daughter, Jana Denise Bryant and her husband Reid and their three children Connor Thomas Ward Hill (10), MaKenzie Ashton Bryant (11) and Matilyn Ryliegh Bryant (4), of Pine Bluff, Ark., step-son, Claude Harrison Batman III and his wife Beth of Oklahoma City, Okla., daughter-in-law, Debbie Riggs Wilson of Thomasville, Ga, chosen/"adopted" children, Mark Schneider of St. Louis, Mo. and Carolyn Moreland of Lamar, Ark. Her Visitation will be Wednesday, June 20, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at Hardwicke Funeral Home in Clarksville, Ark. Funeral Services will be Thursday, June 21, 2012 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Clarksville, Ark. Internment at Mt. Airy Cemetery immediately following the Funeral.
