Robert Gregg Phillips

Maj. Robert Gregg Phillips, U.S. Army (Ret.), passed away June 19, 2012, unexpectedly. Born in Jackson, Miss., he moved with his parents to Springdale, Ark., where he graduated from Springdale High School. He was their senior class president and co-captain of the football team. Robert proudly served for the U.S. Army for 21 years, including two tours of duty and teaching as a professor of military science at University of Alaska. After traveling the world with the Army and becoming a longtime resident of Lakewood, Wash., he went to school to become a clock and watchmaker and eventually worked for Leroy Jewelers of Tacoma until he retired. He loved woodworking and sold his projects at many crafter events. He also had a great love of gardening and became a wonderful barbecue master. Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rosie Ilene; his parents, Robert Park and Marcella Ann Phillips; and his brother, John Karl Phillips. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Massey (William); son, Robert Phillips; and son, Edward Phillips (Gina); six grandchildren, Marcella Walker (Jermaine), Remington Phillips, Robert Eli Massey, Jeremy Phillips-Pritchard, Elise Phillips, and Quinlan Phillips. He also has two great-grandchildren, Echo and Sya Walker. He will be greatly missed by friends and family and will be loved and held in our hearts forever as a loving father and grandfather. Graveside services will be held Friday, June 29, at 9:15 a.m. at Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, Wash. A gathering will follow at Ed & Gina residence at 809 291st St. E., Roy, Wash.
