Charles Hovey, 89, of Springdale, died Friday, July 6, 2012, at his home in Elm Springs. He was born Oct. 4, 1922, in Clayton, N.M., the youngest child of Charles Hovey and Bessie Terry Hovey, where he lived through high school until joining the service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine (Katy) Hovey; and his four sisters, Charlene Hovey Martin, Junita Hovey Jenkins, Jessie Hovey Thompson, Elenora Hovey Sumners; and grandson, Joseph Fears. Charles graduated from the College of the Ozarks with his doctorate in pharmacy. He and his wife, Katy, went on to co-own and operate Joyce's Drug Store and co-own, then own, City Pharmacy in Springdale. He retired at age 62 and continued to practice part time in Gentry at Smith Drug. He was an active member of St. Raphael Catholic Church. Survivors include one son, Ronnie Hovey and his wife, Wan, of Mountain Home; one daughter, Cheryl Fears and her husband, Roy, of Springdale; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday, July 16, at 10 a.m. at St. Raphael Catholic Church. The Rosary will follow at 10:30 and the Mass of the Christian Burial at 11. The burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John David Fears, Matt Fears, Jason Fears, Mike Fears, Chip Hovey, Julie Hovey-Rappe, and honorary pallbearers Loyd Phillips and Justin Rappe. The family would like to recognize in appreciation the Veterans Affairs Administration Team 1, Chad Fredrick RN, Mar Hernandez, Lisa Smith and Circle of Life Hospice.
