Virginia Marie Markell

Virginia Marie Markell, 90, passed away Sunday July 8, 2012, at her home in Fayetteville, Ark. She was born June 18, 1922, in Topeka, Kan. Virginia graduated from Topeka High School and attended Colorado Women's College in Denver and Washburn University in Topeka, Kan. While attending Washburn University, she met and married the love of her life, Lee Markell. Virginia was a member of the Village United Methodist Church, PEO Chapter CH, an avid reader and an accomplished bridge player. She was a kind person who always thought the best of people. Her kindness and positive thinking were inspirational to all who knew her. Above all, Virginia was a wonderful mother, devoted to the care and happiness of her family. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Lee, of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; her parents, Roy and Helen Petterson of Topeka, Kan.; and her brother, Dick Petterson of Topeka, Kan. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Lee and Marilyn Markell of Madison, Miss., Bruce Harris and Rhonda Markell of Hot Springs Village, Ark., and Scott Alan and Marcie Markell of Gainesville, Mo.; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Frank Buchanan of Springdale, Ark.; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at Village United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tom Jarrell and the Rev. Andy Anderson officiating.
